FAQ’S
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Do Lifts Require Water Treatment?
Lifts and elevators have oils and greases to facilitate smooth operation and lubrication. However, when water enters the shaft, it can combine with these substances, forming a harmful mixture that threatens the environment. Additionally, it is important to note that disposing of this mixture through drains is detrimental to the environment and against the law.
Why Is It Against The Law To Dispose Of This Mixture?
Within the UK the direct disposal of this mixture into the foul drain is prohibited by both the water resources act 1991 and the water industry act 1991. It is classified as hazardous waste, subject to strict regulations for proper disposal. Non-compliant companies risk fines up to £20,000, while directors may even face imprisonment in severe cases.
What Can I Do?
Our oil water separator offers a straightforward and budget-friendly solution! By utilizing our system, we eliminate the complexities associated with waste disposal. Once the necessary approvals are obtained, the treated water can be safely discharged into the foul sewer, while the accumulated oil must be extracted by a certified Hazardous Waste Producer or Licensed Waste Carrier, typically during the annual lift service.
